Coming to America - Barcelona, Spain to Miami, Florida

So back in October of 2022 we decided our way back to America was going to be a Transatlantic cruise 🛳. Kelvin and Mary (our friends from Surprise, AZ) had a cruise booked so we decided to join them. We booked our cruise on Regent's Seven Seas Splendor, a 735 ft ship that holds 732 guests in 366 suites. The Splendor has a crew of 567 and Marco Nocera was our Captain. She was also Regent's newest luxury cruise ship (Grandeur was recently commissioned and is now the newest). This was a major splurge for us! Regent is a luxury cruise line and everything is included. Even tips. We were some of the youngest passengers on board. The crew was incredibly outgoing and pampered us the entire time. We booked through Pavlus Travel.

What did we do?

Each evening we received the daily newsletter called Passages. Passages informed us where we were with a description of the area, the schedule of onboard activities including special events, sales in the boutique, the dress code for the day (huge ordeal for some), sunrise and sunset times, etc.

Excursions

Our first port stop was Arrecife (Lanzarote), Canary Islands, Spain. Arrecife is Spanish for 'reef'. The earliest records of Arrecife dates from the fifteenth century when it was a small fishing settlement.

Tour busses lined up and waiting for a
day of fun

Our free excursion was the Northern Lanzarote and Aloe Vera Farm.

Jameos del Agua a unique volcanic tunnel & caverns featuring an underground concert hall, restaurant, and salt lake.

Next stop Aloe Vera Farm Lanzaloe Park. The largest organic Aloe vera plantation in Europe with more than 250,000 Aloe vera plants.

Very bitter! I didn't liked
it but Rob did.

Baby plants from 3 months to 5 years

left on the ship)

Our next stop was Mirador del Río, located 500 meters above a cliff, offers a spectacular panoramic view of Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago.

The sculptor of the bird and fish
is a metaphor of water and air.
The elements of greater presence
in the environment.

Our last stop of the day Mirador De lHaria Los Helechos was really just a bathroom break with a view.

Finally, back to the ship where we received fresh washcloths to freshen up.

Our second port stop was Santa Cruz De La Palma, Canary Islands. It is the second-largest city (after Los Llanos de Aridane) and is the capital of the island. The city was founded in 1493.

Our second free excursion was Caldera de Taburiente. We had an early start of 8:30. We started with an interesting drive -- one side of the island was dreary and overcast. We drove through a tunnel (like going through a portal) and the other side was a beautiful sunny day.

Roads were very tight

We had a short walk to Lomo De Las Chozas viewpoint. We could see the rim of the Caldera.

We stopped at Puros Artesanos Julio to see how cigars were made. It was interesting to watch the process.

A short cigar rolling video:

Our next stop on this excursion was Mirador de La Concepción for a view over the city.

Time for a snacky poo and a stroll at Finca La Principal

Our last stop in the Canary Islands was the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snows).

Honestly, we enjoyed the very first stop to see the Caldera but could have skipped everything else.

Our third port stop was Philipsburg, St. Maarten, the capital of Dutch St. Maarten. A narrow stretch of land between Great Bay and the Great Salt Pond. Founded in 1763 by John Philips, a Scottish captain in the Dutch navy.

Our third free excursion was the Scenic City Drive. We stopped at an overlook, drove through the French side and then dumped at Marigot to explore the downtown and shop.

Back in time for Sunset

This port and excursion was our least favorite. We would have preferred staying on  the ship or just exploring the port area on our own.

Our fourth and final port stop was San Juan, Puerto Rico, the capital and largest city. San Juan was founded by Spanish colonists in 1521, it holds the distinction of being the oldest European-founded city in the Americas.

Our first time back in the US
in over 13 months
Happy to be back to the US

Our fourth free excursion was City and Countryside. Our first stop was the Hacienda Campo Rico a classic Caribbean Style Hacienda located on the grounds of a former sugar cane plantation.

This excursion was much better than yesterday's in St. Maarten.

We didn't spend as much time in the Gym as we had planned. But Rob did make it more than Sharon. Sharon only used the scale.

Who knew you could get excited to do Laundry and we arrived onboard with a full bag. Easy peasy -- complete the form, place in laundry bag and put outside door. Clean laundry arrives the next day.

We did not partake everyday in Afternoon Tea but each day was a different epicurian delight from cupcakes, pies, crepes, cheesecake etc.

Thanksgiving started out with the Splendor Entertainment Team Marching Band parading throughout the ship. After our afternoon excursion we enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner in Compass Rose.

The Country Fair a variety of game booths represented by each of the various departments aboard Seven Seas Splendor. Guests had 45 minutes to play as many games as they wanted in order to win raffle tickets. At the end of 45 minutes a selection prizes were raffled.

Room Service - Rob managed to get sick (we think the flu) which put a slight damper on the cruise. We decided to eat dinner in our room one night. We had miso glazed sea bass! It was phenomenal!

Where did we stay? At the recommendation of Kelvin, we chose the Superior Suite F1 category with a private balcony, a  spacious living room, marble & stone bathroom with double sinks, a walk-in closet with a safe and a European king-sized elite slumber bed.

How did we get there? Again at the recommendation from Kelvin, we hired a driver via Blacklane to take us from the Intercontinental Hotel to Barcelona Cruise Port Terminal B -- about a 20 minute drive.

When did we sail?  20 November - 4 December 2023

According to little Ms. Google we traveled over 800 miles by walking, driving, bus, and by taxi. Little Ms. Google failed to log our sailing miles.

A sad evening but we will definitely be cruising again on Regent.

What did one ocean say to the other?

Nothing. They just waved.
