Siquijor is a small island province in the Visayas. The island was first sighted by the Spaniards in 1565 during Miguel López de Legazpi's expedition. The Spaniards called the island Isla del Fuego ("Island of Fire"), because the island gave off an eerie glow, from the great swarms of fireflies that lived in the numerous molave trees on the island.
What did we do?
Cambugahay Falls a 3-tiered waterfall and swimming hole with swing ropes. You can easily spend a few hours here. We had to pay 50 Php which is about 82 cents. There are additonal charges for the rope swings and bamboo rafts.

Laga-An Falls smaller than Cambugahay Falls. In addition to the entrance fee we also had to pay for parking and we had to have a mandatory guide. The guide was free but, of course, a tip was expected. We had no problem with that.

Scootering Around Town
We captured short videos from around town, the kind that show the real Siquijor: kids playing, dogs wandering, roadside stands, and the slow hum of island living.

Where did we stay?
Casa Juan Del Barrio sits right on the beach, facing a marine sanctuary. We booked the Studio with a kitchenette — cozy, simple, and beachfront. But… the road noise was loud.We asked if any Beach Cottages were available and luck was on our side — one opened up for the rest of our stay. Our new view: Palm trees, quiet waves, and the kind of peace you can feel in your bones. Plus: a pool for cooling off after long scooter rides.

How did we get there?
Amorita Resort arranged a driver to take us to Tagbilaran City, where we boarded the ferry to Siquijor.
- Waiting at the pier
- Ferry seats: very small
- Arrival: a swarm of TukTuk drivers ready to take you anywhere
When did we visit? March 23 - 26, 2026
"No rush, no chaos, just island time!"
