Kandy, also known as Mahanuwara, is a city located in the central province of Sri Lanka. The city is surrounded by lush green hills and is known for its scenic beauty and pleasant climate. We hired a driver to take us from Nuwara Eliya to here and stayed one night. We aren't big 'city people' and were looking forward to spending our last few nights in a beach town.
Where did we stay? Kandy City Hotel by Earl's which is located in the heart of Kandy. We had a comfortable room.
Where did we eat? The Last Drop restaurant which was located right next to the hotel. The food was delicious, beer cold and service excellent.

What did we do?
Walked along Kandy Lake. We did NOT tour the Tooth Temple, also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa. Although it is one of the most sacred Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka, we were 'templed out' and heard you can't actually see the 'tooth' -- the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is visited by thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year.
Kandy City Centre is a large shopping mall in the heart of Kandy and offers a wide range of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options. The mall also has a cinema, a food court, and a supermarket. We ducked in here to get away from, "Sir/Madame, tuk tuk..." and the constant 'friendly locals' who start with, "Where are you from?" which always leads to trying to get us to go somewhere touristy. I get it... they're trying to make a buck but it gets old.
Other popular tourist attractions in Kandy:
The Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya
The Kandy Garrison Cemetery
The Bahirawakanda Temple
The Udawattakele Forest Reserve
Kandy is a busy city and was just a one-night stop for us. It is a popular tourist stop but we're more beach people.
When did we visit? March 26 - 27, 2023
"All Sweet in Kandy"
