Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales. We stayed here a week and enjoyed plenty of river walks, different cuisines for lunch at a local market and exploring Cardiff Castle.
What did we do?
Cardiff Castle and Battlement Grounds -- a stunning medieval fortress that has stood for over 2,000 years. We explored its Roman origins, the Victorian Gothic revival interiors, and the Norman keep. The castle grounds also host various events and performances. Tom Jones was performing while we were there.

Animal Wall -- there were originally only eight animals on the wall, but in 1928, when the road was widened, the wall was moved and seven more animals were added.
Principality Stadium (Millennium Stadium) is home to the Welsh national rugby team. We were not lucky enough to be in Cardiff during a rugby match. That would have been fun to watch.
Bute Park is located behind Cardiff Castle. It is the largest park in Cardiff with walking trails, beautifully landscaped gardens and a great place for our daily walks.
Where and what did we eat?
Cardiff Market -- a Victorian indoor market that has been serving the city for over a century. The market has two floors and over 200 stalls selling a wide variety of goods, including fresh produce, meat, fish, cheeses, bread, cakes, flowers, clothes, household goods, and souvenirs. This was our favorite place in Cardiff and ate our lunch here almost everyday.

Cardiff Bakestones is a great place to try Welsh Cakes, which are not sweet. They were perfect with a cup of coffee.
Thai Asian Delish -- we enjoyed the food here went back a second time.

Riverside Market -- we thought was a farmers market but it was mostly food vendors. Yay for us as Cardiff Market is closed on Sundays.

OMG so good |
Flight Club Cardiff -- the food was decent, but the entertainment was better. There was a phone booth next to our table. Inside the phone booth was a list of three digit codes followed by a name. For example, 135 Mike. Dial the number and a Michael Jackson song starts playing, lights flash and a disco ball spins. So I had to try it... and was attacked by 'girls gone wild'. See video below.

Where did we stay? We stayed at Francis's Place, an AirBnB. It was a little small but perfect for us. The host left us Pressco and chocolates... two of Sharon's favorites.
How did we get there? We took a train from Bath to Cardiff.
When did we visit? July 16 through July 24, 2023
Cardiff, Wales, is a fun city and very walkable. We are glad we spent a week here and can cross another country off our list!
"We all need space. Unless we have it we cannot reach that sense of quiet in which whispers of better things come to us gently."
