Portimão is located along the Algarve coastline. It is known for its golden beaches. It is clearly a popular vacation spot with no shortage of bars and restaurants.
What did we do? Really... not much. We enjoyed two days of walking the beach and admiring the beautiful cliffs and large rocks. It was very relaxing.
Praia da Rocha: Portimão is renowned for its beautiful beaches, and Praia da Rocha (Stone Beach) is the crown jewel. The golden sands and crystal-clear waters make it a perfect spot for sunbathing, surfing and swimming. Additionally, there are plenty of beachfront bars and restaurants.

Our last morning walk. Bad weather was approaching

No tents or volleyball 🏐 players |
Praia do Vau: Another beautiful beach in Portimão. Praia do Vau which has a quieter atmosphere than Praia da Rocha.

We were surprised the water was not freezing |
Where did we eat?
We were both in the mood for pizza so while in Lagos we had lunch at Pepperino an Italian Eatery. It was a great little spot food and service was good. They did charge 1.50€ for packaged breadsticks 🤣.

Margherita Pizza |
I picked a superb spot for dinner, Adris. We stopped in earlier in the day to see if reservations were needed. I said what time we wanted and the guy kinda laughed at me. "No problem as we do not get busy until 7:30 - 8:00". We got a window table. Service and food was really good. Definitely tourist prices but not too bad.

Bread, tuna pate, & olives. I'm excited that Sharon has been enjoying olives. |

Octopus "Adri's Style" |

Fish of the day - Grouper 😋 |
My next choice was the
Curry House. I didn't think Sharon would go for Indian but she agreed to go. A small little restaurant right outside our AirBnB. No reservation but we snagged a seat outside and they were full the entire time we were there. Service at first was a little slow but the food and prices were good. The Naan bread was excellent (no picture).

Chicken Jalfrezi with rice |

We did a very touristy thing and had sangria and lunch on the beach at Casalinho.

Our view during lunch |
Where did we stay? An AirBnB, "Beautiful and clean ocean view apartment" hosted by Edite. Edite gave really clear directions and instructions. She met us outside the building and we followed her into the garage to our parking space. Then we went upstairs and she showed us our apartment. It was another nice spacious apartment with two balconies and an ok view of the ocean. Our last day called for really bad weather. So bad that we received alerts on our phone. Edite was kind enough to let us check out late because we couldn't check into our next AirBnB until 3:00.
How did we get here? Drove from Zambujeira do Mar with a stop in Lagos Old Town for lunch, a pee break and to check out the village.
When did we visit? 16 - 19 October 2023.
Portimão was a relaxing destination. There's supposed to be a vibrant nightlife here. We are not 'nightlife' people. Especially when it doesn't even start until 11pm!
"Today’s forecast: 100% chance of walking."
