Costa Rica - San Jose to Uvita 🇨🇷

San José or Saint Joseph, is the capital and largest city of Costa Rica. We spent our first night here before beginning our exploration of the country.

Escultura Al Viento

Uvita de Osa is a small town in southern Costa Rica, on a section of coastline known as the Bahía Ballena.

What did we do?

We connected

Parque Central de San José

San José Central Market

Colon Costa Rica currency

Parque Nacional Marino Ballena better known as Whales Tail Beach. During low tide, the rocks and sand in Uvita create a formation resembling a whale's tail. The park was about 15 minutes from our AirBnb, so we did a little exploration in the morning and came back at low tide so we could walk out to the Whale's Tail.

Crocodiles 🐊 🐊 do not
swim. There were swimmers.

The beach was mud not sand
I made it!

Yes I went in
It was a tad chilly

Something touched
me 😳🙄

Uvita Waterfall, also known as Cascada Verde. This natural wonder is surrounded by lush greenery and offers a refreshing pool at its base where we could have taken a revitalizing swim after a short hike through the forest

We are going down

Crazy - He went head first

She was being given

We went to Gusto Italian Restaurant. The host asked if we had a reservation. We did not because there was no way to make a reservation on line. He said you had to use WhatsApp like we were supposed to know that. How was I supposed to know that!?! Oh well... plan B Al Chile Que Si a Mexican restaurant.

Pork Confit Tacos

Shrimp Tacos

Seba's - Uvita - the food was outstanding but the service not so much. It was the young man's first night as a server. Lucky us. Unfortunately, we discovered this place our last night in Uvita. We would have gone back.

We are enjoying The Seba's 2.0 (Bourbon
Amaro Montenegro, Campari, Canadian
Maple Syrup, Lime) & Espresso Martini

Fish Crudo Salsa Verde
Nona's Milanese

Beets & Carrots
Seafood Rice

Where did we stay?

Hotel Presidente - San Jose, Costa Rica

An AirBnB Entire villa in Uvita, Costa Rica hosted by Sarah in Uvita, Costa Rica. Sarah gave great instructions for checking in.

When we checked into Villa 2, we could not lock our door. We contacted Sarah and she showed up right away and moved us to Villa 3. Setup was exactly the same.

Outside space

How did we get there? We took the free shuttle to the airport from our hotel in David, Panama.  We flew Copa Airlines from David with a layover in Panama City then on to San José, Costa Rica.

There were only 2 gates in David
OMG I have to walk over there

Back to PTY
Up again

Juan Santamaría International
Airport (SJO)

Our rental car was delivered in the airport parking garage

Shoutout to Sun Valley Rent A Car! They were so easy and a great company! We were greeted by an agent at the airport who escorted us across the street to pick up our car in the garage. He went over everything and did our paperwork right there. When we returned the car, we simply parked it in the departure garage, locked the fob in the cap gas compartment, sent a picture with the parking spot number and off we went to check-in at the airport.

After our night in San Jose we drove approximately 5 hours from San Jose to Uvita. Rob quickly discovered that "Costa Rica" is Spanish for "large potholes".

Road Block

OH just park on the wrong side
of the road

We are in a rain forest
We were in the clouds
