Santa Teresa is a small town in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica. It is located about 93 miles west of the capital city of San José. Santa Teresa started as a remote fishing village.
Did you know? Blue zones are geographic regions around the world where people live exceptionally long and healthy lives. The Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica is one of the five original zones.

Nicoya Peninsula The blue dot is where we stayed. We should live a few extra minutes now. |
What did we do?
Plenty of Beach Time. Beautiful beach, water was the perfect temperature, and good waves to knock me down. We rented an umbrella 🌂 & chairs.

Where did we stay?
Hotel Santa Teresa - The hotel and our room was nice. The town itself is very dusty since the main road is unpaved. We believe they will be paving that soon based on feedback from the hotel. We never used the balcony because of noise, dust and exhaust. The staff were great! We couldn't figure out how to get the Nespresso coffee maker to work. Housekeeping came in and clicked a button on the BACK bottom of the coffee maker. Duh. If we ever stay here again, we would book plenty early and book a room that is poolside.
 |
Wasn't much of a balcony or a view |
How did we get there? Well, we drove and took a ferry. It took us about 6 hours. We had a time constraint as we already purchased our ferry ⛴️ tickets 🎟 for a 2:30 departure and I wanted to make a stop.

 |
I was fascinated by their fences. We later found out these are called live fences |
The stop I wanted to make was at Crocodile 🐊 Bridge 🌉 😫 😩. It was about an 1 1/2 from our starting point. So glad we were able to make the stop.
 |
No crocs here! |
 |
They were all on the other side of the bridge |

Just catching some rays! |
Off to the ferry! We made such good time we arrived in time to take the 12:30 crossing. We arrived at 12:20 and immediately boarded. Awesome timing!

Time to continue our journey |
The ferry ride was a little over an hour. It was a good thing we hopped on earlier or we would have arrived at the hotel after dark. You do not want to drive in Costa Rica at night -- too many potholes and curvy roads.
When did we visit? February 27 - March 4, 2025
According to little Ms. Google, in February, we only traveled 2,730 miles by walking, driving, cruising and flying ✈️. We visited six airports in one month.
