Spain - Calahonda

Calahonda is a coastal town located on Costa del Sol. It is located in the province of Málaga and a Meditterranean resort town with a comfortable climate, beaches, and a relaxed ambiance.

We passed Gibraltar on the way. Why didn't we stop? Gibraltar is part of the UK and we would have had to go through Customs in and out. There was no way I wanted to chance NOT being able to get back into Spain (the EU).

What did we do? Actually not too much except for our death marches (as Sharon calls them). We had Calahonda Beach and a really great promenade within steps of our AirBnB. The best part was it was off season so there were not hundreds of people everywhere.

Calahonda Beach

La Torre de Los Ladrones (The Tower of Thieves) is located close to the sea, next to Cabopino beach and the Natural Monument of Andalusia Dunas de Artola. It is the tallest watchtower on the entire Malaga coast with its 15 m height.

Dunas de Artola o Cabopino (Artola Dunes) protected sand dunes with native vegetation, backing a nude beach accessible via boardwalk. We did not search for the nude beach 😳.

Where did we eat?

Chiringuito El Juncal was located right on the promenade and looked like a good place for a drink and dinner. We were disappointed. 😞 We should have ordered seafood. 🐟. Definitely  tourist prices even though it is off season.

G & S Restaurant was not a waterfront restaurant. It was located in a little strip mall on the main drag. The service was excellent and we liked the prices. The food was average.

Where did we stay? We stayed at the Beach & Hippie Chic Apartment for Happy People AirBnB hosted by Tania. We were hoping Tania would welcome us with 'happy' cookies 🍪 😋. Unfortunately, she did not.

Self check-in. Which lock box is ours?

How did we get there? We drove from Cadiz to Calahonda with a quick stop at Lidl. It took us almost three hours to travel 107 miles.

When did we visit? 27 - 30 October 2023

Calahonda may not be the most famous destination on the Costa del Sol, but it does have beautiful beaches and a resort 'vibe'. We are looking for the perfect beach town to spend several months in (someday). We enjoyed our time here and would consider visiting again.

"Sol, mar y arena eso es todo lo que queremos!  Sun, sea and sand… That‘s all we want!"
