Belize- Caye Cauker

Caye Caulker (pronounced "Key Caw-ker") is a small Caribbean island off the coast of Belize. It’s divided by a narrow channel called the Split, where there’s a bar and a sandy beach. To the south is the island’s only settlement, known as Caye Caulker Village. The population is about 4,000 people.

What did we do?

Remember I said Big mistake. Big. Huge. for not planning a snorkeling trip in San Pedro? Well the day we arrived and just about every day there, it was either raining or too breezy for us to go snorkeling.

Mostly we walked, drank & ate as you will tell from the pictures 📸.

Walkabouts

Beach BBQ
Mud all over the back of me

Tarpon Feeding Dock

We did see Tarpon

We walked to the Airport.

The Caye Cauker Cemetery was our cut through to get to the front road.

I only saw one cemetery maybe the
pathway makes it two.

The sign was blank when we first
arrived, all hand written.

The Caye Cauker Animal Shelter we did not go in.

Stingray Beach
was very cool 😎.

Pool Time we were able to spend about an hour at the pool.

We obtained some Belizean Dollars. Belize Dollar (BZD; symbol BZ$). The exchange rate is approximately Bz$2 to US$1. It is not necessary to exchange money, the USD is accepted everywhere.

Apparently we should have kept some as they are removing the Queen from their money.

We did get Laundry done not once but twice. The first time, the clothes smelled sour.

I believe the clothes were damp
when they packed them in our bags
not good.
Second laundry, she got the
sour smell out, charged us double.

In the end, a $10 load of laundry ended up costing us $40 total! We probably should have gone back to the first place and complained but Rob wasn't having it. lol

Time to move on. Caye Cauker is a very laid back Island.

Where \ what did we eat?

Tropical Paradise Restaurant

Enchiladas

Hawaiian Pizza

Amor y Cafe a recommendation by the hotel. It was so so.

Watermelon juice

Breakfast Panini
Egg, bacon & cheese

Homemade Yogurt & Granola

Pasta Per Caso was another hotel recommendation. The seating is very limited and meal choices are even more limited. The food and the service was very good. They fill every seat so you may share a table, which we did. Reservations are highly recommended.

Mixed Salad
Pasta of the day

Evelyn's House of Fry Jacks it was a very popular place. We weren't impressed. Prices were great.

Reina's we were told you needed reservations so on one of our many walkabout we stopped by and there was an older gentleman sitting at a table. He said, oh no, his son does not take reservations but they open at 5 to come back then. Him & his wife live right next door and sell bread and pies 🥧 and his sons run the restaurant.

It turns out one of the sons does take reservations. The other does not, but we were able to get a seat. The food was good. They were full and had a line when we left.

Where did we stay?

Tree Tops Hotel Lamanai Studio

How did we get there?

The San Pedro Belize Express - we found the ferry dock (it was different than the ferry dock we arrived at) a week before and purchased our tickets ahead of time. The dock was only a 2 minute walk from our room, but when we returned our golf cart, he took us to the terminal.

New terminal
Gate 1 Caye Cauker
Gate 2 Belize City

One boat 2 lines they boarded Belize City
first, as their luggage came off last

There was not an empty
seat and very hot
It was pouring when we
