Belize - San Pedro

San Pedro Town is in the south part of Ambergris Caye. Ambergris Caye is Belize's largest island. The town has a population of about 20,000.  San Pedro was once a sleepy fishing village. It was made a town in 1984.

What did we do?

We rented a Golf Cart for several days. It is a must to see the whole island.

Traffic Jam

To get to Secret Beach we had to cross a toll bridge. A person stops you & collects your fee. We had a sticker so we were just waved on through.

Secret Beach was a 45 minute ride and it is no secret.

We moved seats to get out of the sun 🌞 and it was a good thing. This barge pulled in to deliver a construction office 🏠.

We were sitting in those chairs

The workers had to move chairs and even the Secret Beach ⛱️ sign to allow the building through. What a strange 🤔 😳 place to just pull in!

Look at all the space I had

Pirate's Punches
So much for my space. I even
moved over twice

Next stop Roadkill Bar & Grill

More Golf Cart fun.

We got some rain

Rum Dog had a great view but the service and the drinks weren't very good.

This was the lower level

Truck Stop -- this place was pretty cool. They had several food trucks, pool bar and multiple TVs. The Chiefs were playing when we were there and there were plenty of fans.

Love the signs on the doors:

Listening 🎶  to Bamboo Chicken Band at The Beach Bar & Grill. We didn't realize at first that they were from Chesapeake Beach, Maryland and we had several Facebook friends in common. It was their last night playing in Belize.

Pool Time

Hanging in the Hammock

Sunrise

There were signs all over the island.

This was made of flip flops

What is a fryjack? A traditional Belizean breakfast dish of deep-fried dough pieces. They are often eaten with eggs, refried beans, cheese, or sausage.

Coral Bay Villas in the Starfish Suite

How did we get here?

This is interesting. 🤔 The easiest and quickest way to get to Ambergris Caye was to fly from Mexico City to Chetumal, Mexico 🇲🇽.  We didn't even know where Chetumal was located until we looked it up. From Chetumal we needed to take a two hour ferry ride to Ambergris Caye. Rome2Rio.com is a great site to help you figure out how to get somewhere.

A little Snapchat
fun before takeoff

Our luggage arrived
He had to wait for me

Supposedly we were to have a ride from the airport to the ferry terminal but we ended up taking a taxi.

We arrived at the ferry terminal and had to wait about an 1 1/2 for customs to open.

We finally boarded the Belize Island Express ferry ⛴️

When did we visit? January 14 - 21, 2025

We did not plan a snorkeling trip here and let me tell you as Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman Big mistake. Big. Huge. We later learned that Yolo is one of the best snorkeling/dive companies in San Pedro.

Belize motto in latin -
Sub Umbra Floreo”, meaning “Under the Shade I flourish.”
