The Adventure Begins

So many emotions this morning. Today, October 11, 2019, begins our new adventure. We left our slip C5 at Herrington Harbour South of 9 years to begin living the dream of cruising.

This morning started with coffee of course, then we delivered our old faithful beater (car) to the Julian house. Back to the marina to begin prepping for departure. Actually prepping started prior to this morning, maintenance, provisioning, cleaning, organizing, and even some Halloween decorations. I digress, back to this morning's preparations, we unhooked the water hose, electrical cords and all our lines for the last time in slip C5.

Headed to the fuel dock to top off fuel tanks and get our new holding tank pumped out for the first time. Walked to the gift shop to get our Herrington Harbour shirts (nothing like waiting until we are leaving to purchase our gear, especially when the gift shop was closer to our slip) oh well extra steps.

Pushed off the dock and headed for the high seas known as the Chesapeake Bay. Boy were the seas high (not really but not as calm as we would have liked). On the flybridge someone forgot to secure the cushions. 😁 The wagon and the cooler that I thought were secure, were not and our beach bag was upside down and  contents spread acrosss the deck.  Who wanted to leave in those conditions? 😕 😕😕  Made us forget about being sad though. Considering the way the flybridge looked I was afraid to go assess the situation down below. Eventually I did and most items had already been secured so things were not as bad.

After 7 hours and 55.5 nm underway we arrived at Smith Creek, near the mouth of the Potomac River, our destination for the evening. We dropped the anchor and setup for the evening. (I love being on the hook).💕

I started using an app called Nebo which allows family, friends, and fellow Loopers (did I mention our plan is to do the American Great Loop?) to track our journey. As soon as I figure out how to use I will share.

Enjoyed dinner of cheese, crackers, turkey and artichoke hearts along with a nice cold bottle of bubbly (thanks to Lance and Nicole). Of course our first night was supposed to be NY strips with a blue cheese butter, baked potatoes, and asparagus but *$&t happens (steaks were bad). We have to learn to adapt and overcome.

As our evening winds down we are so grateful for our family and friends and we will truly miss each and everyone.
