Black Point

We were the first to arrive and we anchored to the right of the Government dock.  We figured with our outboard issues we could easily row to the dock.  After we anchored, a guy in his dinghy stopped by and we found out we had picked the perfect spot to anchor.  He let us know we were right near the laundry and all the restaurants in town.

Staniel to Black Point

We heard Black Point had the best laundromat and all three of us (Dianne, Michelle and me) were all planning on doing some laundry.  So we figured we should get our laundry together and get started before the others arrived.   Luckily, the outboard worked and Rob did not have to row us ashore.

I had three loads, two loads of clothes and one load of towels.  There were several washers and dryers.  Some of the machines had out of order signs on them.  It worked out perfectly, there were two other people doing laundry and three machines available for me.  In order to do laundry you have to purchase tokens from the attendant.  It cost us $25 to wash and dry the three loads, most expensive laundry I have ever done.  But it was so great to have fresh clothes.

Not to happy - chores

Once the washers started, we took a quick walk around town, it didn’t take long.  Everything was truly right there.  We passed the school where children in uniforms were playing basketball. It was nice to see kids outside playing.

The best thing about the laundromat is the sitting area outside overlooking the water and our boat.  Once my wash was done, I had to wait for dryers, most of the dryers had out of order signs.  It was not a very long wait and once all of my clothes were in dryers Dianne arrived to do her laundry.

At this point we found out Tony and Michelle went to the local clinic to check on his elbow.  They were very impressed with the clinic.  Tony was told he needed an x-ray and he needed to go to Nassau.  They arranged for a flight out the next morning.

We all decided we were going to Scorpios for happy hour, we heard they had 2 for 1 rum punches.  Their happy hour is only on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Thank goodness we arrived on a Friday afternoon.  Wow, we thought Coconut Brian gave a good pour, but the drinks made by DJ were dangerous.

The next morning Tony and Michelle got up bright and early to head to the airport, which they walked to.  Tony was flying to Nassau by himself, because he could return without having a covid test since he was vaccinated.  His flight to return was scheduled for Sunday morning, he figured he was probably going to have to spend the night in a hotel room.  The very nice lady that checked him in at the airport gave him her personal phone number in case he was able to return the same day.

Once he arrived in Nassau he now had to get a taxi to the hospital.  The hospital took x-rays and put him in a real cast with a real sling. His insurance company was paying for the doctor bills, but not for any of the travel.  He had to pay the hospital before leaving and would be reimbursed.  He contacted the airline and they were able to get him on the afternoon flight back.  Another taxi back to the airport.

Rob and I did our normal, let’s go for a walk at the hottest time of the day.  We explored the island they were or are in the process of building homes/rentals on the hill, a few were occupied.  We took the path to the blow hole, but the only thing we found was a secluded beach.

We had such a good time at Scorpio’s we decided to go back on Saturday.  This time we had Chivago, his pour was the same as DJ’s if not better.  Tony arrived back in time for happy hour.  We all took it easy on the rum punches we wanted to enjoy our dinner at Lorraine’s.

Great times!

We left Scorpio’s and walked across the street to the world famous Lorraine’s.  We walked in and was greeted by Lorraine, she asked what we were having and we told her we were looking for a good Bahamian meal.  She said I’ll take care of it.  Her and her staff came out with six plates of food with fish, shrimp, ribs, peas and rice, and macaroni and cheese, potatoe or coleslaw.  It was fantastic!

Almost forgot to mention Lorraine’s mother makes the best homemade coconut cinnamon raisin bread.  Dianne and Derrick went in early and purchased a loaf for each couple.

The next day we were heading out to go north to Highbourne due to all our technical problems, Patricia Marie heading north to Norman's Cay due to medical reasons (elbow) and Liberty Call was having the pleasure of heading south towards Georgetown.
