United Kingdom - Scotland - Aberdeen

Aberdeen is located on the east coast of Scotland along the North Sea coastline. We spent three nights here and that was plenty of time.

The first thing we noticed was how gray everything was.
Aberdeen is known for its granite buildings and its nickname is The Granite City. Believe it or not Sharon, did not take pictures of all the buildings... thankfully.

What did we do?

Footdee (Fittie): This was a charming and quaint neighborhood affectionately known as Fittie by the locals. It is an historic fishing village and we enjoyed walking around Aberdeen Harbor.

The Roundhouse

Fog Bell

Aberdeen Beach: This was a long stretch of sandy beach! And we enjoyed walking along the promenade and checking out what the many food trucks had to offer.

Surfing Lesson 🏄‍♂️ 🏄‍♀️

We did a coastal walk to Torrey Battery and the Girdie Ness Lighthouse.

Which way do we go?

Those we love don't go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard but always near
Still loved, still missed and very dear

Where did we eat?

Cafe Harmony was recommended by our AirBnB host and it was good but not excellent.  The service was outstanding and the Hummus was the bomb diggity.

Walking made us hungry and look at that food trucks! We chose The Hungry Beast.

Cafe Andaluz another recommendation from our host and this one was a really good recommendation. The food and service were both excellent. We tried the 3 tapas and a dessert special.

Gambas Pil Pil
Hot roasted king prawns

Pollo Al Ajillo
Chicken thighs cooked with garlic,
rosemary & red chillies in chicken stock

Ensalada Adaluza

tomatoes & sweet hinamin dressing
Brownie De Chocolate

Yes I'm eating dessert
It was that good

We chose Pad Thai Hotpot & Grill so we could get some Thai food and they were one of the higher rated restaurants nearby.  We were a little disappointed. The food was bland and our first waitress didn't seem like she could be bothered. Our second younger waitress was polite and friendly. It was too bad we didn't have her the entire tim

Where did we stay? An AirBnB, "Modern City Center", hosted by Anca and Amir. The stairs just about killed Sharon! But it was spacious AND had a scale! Sharon was so excited/apprehensive to weigh herself. We were both convinced we've gained weight since entering the UK but turns out, we have not! Yay!

He even had personalized mugs for us!

How did we get here? The train!

When did we visit? August 19 through August 22, 2023

Aberdeen has a rich maritime heritage, nice coastal walks and plenty of good restaurants to choose from!
