Sicily - Trapani

Trapani is a coastal city located in the westernmost part of Sicily.

What did we do? Not a whole lot and enjoyed a little down time for a few days.

Museo Civico Torre di Ligny is located on the tip of the promontory that overlooks the sea and is housed in a historic tower dating back to the 17th century.

Chiesa di San Liberale dedicated to the patron saint of fishermen that performed the fishing of the corals and it was built by themselves around 1600.

Historic Old Town
(where we stayed) is filled with beautiful Baroque architecture and charming streets. A portion is a pedestrian-only zone, which makes it the perfect place to wander and explore.

Another popular attraction in Trapani is the Salt Pans, which are located just outside the city. The Salt Pans are a series of saltwater pools that have been used for salt production for centuries. We did not visit this. We had a parking space -- a free parking space -- and the car did not move.

Chiesa di Sant'Agostino, church famous for its stunning Baroque interior and beautiful paintings.

Chiesa di San Lorenzo, church which dates back to the 14th century and is known for its beautiful Gothic architecture.

Where did we stay? The Mermaid, an AirBnB. We were super nervous about staying here after doing a Google Maps streetview. It looked like an abandoned building. But once inside, up a flight of stairs, and it turned out to be a really nice place! It was perect for us and decorated really nice. The place had every amenity we could have needed. Our host, Salvatore, was very charismatic and offered several great happy hour and dining recommendations.

When did we visit? May 1 through May 5, 2023.

We were really glad we visit Trapani and loved exploring the city's historic Old Town and indulging in its delicious local cuisine.
