Croatia - Hvar \ Brač

Where did we visit? We visited the Islands of Hvar and Brač.

Hvar is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea, located off the Dalmatian coast, lying between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula. It is the sunniest place in Croatia, with an average of 2,724 hours of sunshine per year. We stayed in the town of Hvar.

Brač is the largest island in Dalmatia, and the third largest in the Adriatic Sea. Brač is known for its white stone which is said to have been used to build the White House. The island is also home to the highest point in the Adriatic islands, Vidova Gora, which is 780 meters (2,560 feet) high. We traveled to the town of Milna.

What did we do!

Hvar

Explored the Old Town. The Old Town of Hvar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most well-preserved medieval towns in Croatia. It is home to narrow streets, charming squares, and a number of historical landmarks, including the Hvar Cathedral, the Franciscan Monastery, and the Arsenal.

St. Anthony's Church and
Benedictine Convent

The Fortica Fortress is a Renaissance fortress in Hvar. It is located on a hill overlooking the town and the Pakleni Islands. The fortress was built in the 16th century by the Venetians to protect the town from Ottoman attacks.

You have to climb the steps

Brač

Visit the Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation. This 17th-century church is one of the most important landmarks in Milna. It features a beautiful Baroque interior and a bell tower that offers stunning views of the town and the surrounding area.

Makarac Beach

Milna is a small town with a very picturesque harbor. We enjoyed walking around town including the waterfront.

How did we get here?

We took the TP Line Ferry from Korcula to Hvar and Hvar to Brac. The Ferry only ran once a day which was in the evening. This gave us an entire day to explore but it was definitely tiring.

Where did we eat?

Hanibal and Spice Restaurant in Hvar located right by St. Stephen's Cathedral. The service was good, the curry was excellent, the Linguine with Mussels was lacking Mussels but had plenty of clams.

We had dinner at Dalmatino's a Mediterranean Restaurant in Hvar. By far one of the best restaurants we have chosen. The service was superb and the food was excellent. The Brandy, Polenta, and Port were compliments of the restaurant.

The closest we could come to celebrating Memorial Day was enjoying a burger at Mizarola Hvar.

Our first night in Brac was rainy so we didin't wander far for dinner. We went right around the corner to Konoba Dupini. The food and service was good enough that we went back a second night and had a view of the harbor.

Our favorite, PeKara Milna, was right around the corner. She had the best bureka (meat pie) we've had so far.

Where did we stay?

In Hvar we stayed at Ana's Place. To get to Ana's Place: down the dock and up stairs, down the street, up more stairs, pick up key, up more and more stairs. Finally! The view was worth the walk up.

In Brač we also were hosted by an Ana at Mia's Place according to AirBnB but Ana's mom Marija is the real host. Immediately after check-in, Marija insisted we come down to her place for some cake and a drink. She was so sweet!

We loved the patio
